WILL IT BE A HAT-TRICK
FOR WEYMOUTH THIS YEAR?
Congratulations to John Simpson of Weymouth Moviemakers.
We here at Exeter Films have just read the latest news that John
has taken over as Competition Officer for SoCo.
We wish him the very best of luck.
But will he make it a hat-trick?
After all, for the last two years the SoCo organisers have allowed
entries from outside the SoCo region. One entry from outside the
region even won the top prize.
We're all waiting to see if this happens again.

Considering all the mess that the SOCO committee has
made in organising its film competitions during 2016, we would
have thought that the committee would have been more
careful when allowing (yet again) more entries from outside
the SOCO region in its competitions during 2017 last year.
So is it now time for all the SOCO committee members to call
it a day and resign?
We certainly think so.
We've never had an apology from the SOCO committee members,
they've just kept very quiet about all the cock-ups they've made.
We have written to the SOCO committee many times during 2017
and have never received a reply.
Is this the way to run a committee?

ANOTHER BALLS-UP
has been made inside the SOCO Committee,
for the second year in a row.
We are at a loss here at Exeter Films to know why the organisers of
The SOCO Regional Competition do not seem to know which clubs
are in the SOCO region.
More will be revealed tomorrow.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Last year we wrote:
SO IS THIS THE BIGGEST STITCH-UP SINCE THE BAYEUX TAPESTRY?
We have discovered corruption, dishonesty, and secrecy going on within the SOCO committee.
Would someone on the SOCO committee explain why they allowed a SERIAC film into the 2016 'TOP OF THE CLUBS' competition?
The rules (we think) clearly state that this SOCO competition is open to only, err, um, members or clubs in the SOCO region.
So is there something that the SOCO committee is not telling us?
We'd love to know.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Saturday 28th January 2017
Facts are facts, and this fact is incontrovertible.
Why is the SOCO committee being so nasty to us here at Exeter Films?
You may not like what we write, but you all know that what we write is true.
If it isn't, why hasn't the committee said something or contacted us about this?
And why doesn't the committee come clean about all this and admit that they've
made a complete cock-up of the whole thing.

BEST EDITING AWARD
We would like to congratulate Susie Walker, one of our friends
here at Exeter Films, for scooping the best editing award for her
film ‘Flog It’ in the recent annual SoCo Regional Competition 2015.
Her film was placed third overall, which is a remarkable achievement.
Susie made this film on her own using just a tiny Sony Handyman
and simple Adobe Premiere Elements 7.0 editing software.

Well, we live in hope.
As you can see, the merchandise is
stylishly modelled by one of our youngest
and most enthusiastic club members.
Please note that the jaunty cap featured
in the picture is now discontinued.
But we've heard a rumour that there
are plenty of polo shirts available stored
in the IAC president's loft.

It's out quarterly, and we think the next issue will

£4.99 but we can't figure out how you buy it on its
own.
That's O.K. because, as we said, it's free with

So here are the names that we didn't mention last month.
We didn't mention them because we don't have to.
Just go to the IAC forum and count up the twelve names you see the most.
These are the people we mean, and they know who they are.
There's one person who writes about space station toilets in a film making magazine.
When he was questioned about it, he couldn't see that he'd done anything wrong.
Incredible really.

and, as we write this on Saturday 29th March 2014, their very own website
still contains comments from other IAC clubs which are over one year old.

What is going on at SoCo?
When you email certain Regional Contacts,
why is it that you never receive a reply?
Would someone tell us what The Mermaid and Mini Mermaid is?
We've been trying to find out for months, but nobody at SoCo wants to tell us.
Who benefits from entering SoCo competitions?
Never mind The Likely Lads.
Whatever happened to The Dolphin and Baby Dolphin Competitions?
We will try to let you know in the next issue.
We are taking a break through January, but we'll be back with more
news and information during February.
Finally, and this is fairly serious, can anyone tell us how we can get to see
the winners of The Mermaid and Mini Mermaid Competitions?
We'd love to know the answer, because the competitions which were
held in Scotland, were both won by Scottish entries.

No they're not, says one of our members.
Not if the advice you read is complete nonsense.
Monday 30th September 2013
Have you ever noticed how some forums have the same old, tiresome, dozen

saying nothing worthwhile?

We received the results and comments on the last day of March 2013. If you'd like to see them,
please come to the bar at the next meeting, and we'll give you a copy. It's very comprehensive.
We'd like to show you a photograph of the new Best Club
Website 2013 trophy, but we can't, because we're waiting
for The IAC to publish it.
As soon as they do that, we'll show you what we could
have displayed on the bar at our club.
We have just found out that the 2013 trophy is the same as last year except it has 2013 printed on it.
So now you know.

Is Super 8 film making a comeback?
No it isn't. Super 8 film is not making a comeback, nor are video cameras using tape. The future lies in memory stick cameras.

DSLR FILMMAKER - ISSUE ONE - MARCH 2013
Wednesday 30th January 2013
If you've ever looked along the magazine shelves of any well-know bookshops,
you may have noticed that there is plenty to read on photography, but for many
years there has been nothing for film-makers.
Well this has now all changed. Issue one of DSLR FILMMAKER magazine has just
been launched. For £4.99 you will receive 116 pages. All in colour, and all glossy.
If you've read this magazine, please let us know what you think of it, and if you'd
like to review it for us, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Saturday 16th February 2013
Last week we wrote to DSLR FilmMaker Magazine asking them why they've decided
to call themselves DSLR FilmMaker Magazine.
You'll all be pleased to know, well most of you will be pleased to know, that DSLR
FilmMaker is changing its name to Digital Film-Maker.
So if you own a plain ordinary video camera instead of one of those fancy video
cameras that looks like a still camera, then stand by for issue 2 of this magazine.
It should be out in the very near future, which means sometime this month,
or maybe next month.
And here it is. They've dropped the issue number
Thursday 21st February 2013
And they listened to what we said.
This magazine is for all film-makers now, and not just for the DSLR brigade.
Friday 5th April 2013
The third edition of this magazine has just been released, we won't report on it
anymore, now that it's established, but please let us know what you think about it.

EXETER FILMS contributed three mini masterpieces to this annual competiton, and had high hopes of a trophy or two, but I can now reveal that this was not so...

Teignmouth once again showed what a warm friendly club they are, and put on a great show. It was a very enjoyable event.
Roll on next year.
